Most patriotic Americans know the first line of the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States of America, which begins:
“We the People, in order to form a more perfect union…”
When I think of or hear this, I am reminded of not only Schoolhouse Rock, but President Trump’s inauguration speech from January 20, 2017. Listen to what he says here!
He mentions that we are replacing a “failed and corrupt political establishment with a government run by ‘WE THE PEOPLE.’”
I have listened to this speech dozens of times, actually, getting cemented in my head where we’re going.
To get where we’re going, we have to understand where we’ve been.
In 2020 and 2021, I believe we’ve seen where we’ve been. And if we ever have to remember, we only need to think about how we refer to the folks making decisions for us.
“THEY” usually describes how we think of “THEM.”
We don’t regard us as “we,” and when we see people like the European marches for freedom, or the Vail, AZ, parents who took over the school board, we’re shocked, tenuous, unsure. Did that really happen?
We’ve been used to “THEM” running the government. Are we ready for US to run it?
Are we in a position to do as the founders felt was important and give a specific period of time as civil service? Are we willing to understand more about how our country was intended to be founded and run?
I am sure you, like I, feel that the way it’s being run is not how it’s supposed to be run according to the Constitution and the founding fathers. I plan on breaking that down, not as an expert, but as a fellow sojourner studying the original documents.
We’re in a period of time where we must rise up as opportunity is provided by Almighty God for us to step into places of governance.
Did you hear about the parents in Vail, AZ, who challenged their local school board on the mask issue for children, and the school board left the meeting.
I have a personal friend, Carrie Liebich, who was interviewed by Steve Bannon on the Pandemic War Room channel, and she said that they engaged the humanity of the folks previously on the school board, and the former school board members stepped down. What happened next was remarkable and spontaneous. I don’t know about you, but I was in shock even listening to it, and I had to ask her if it stood.
Isn’t it bizarre and sad that we doubt moves like this? I don’t know about you, but my first response is like I snuck into a room and peeked around the corner to see if it was ok to come out in the open.
However, President Trump on January 20, 2017, said very explicitly in his inaugural speech in 2017 that “we, the people” were going to be in charge of the government.
Notwithstanding what happened on November 3, or is currently happening in Arizona, we very likely will in the weeks and months to come see opportunities to rise up and serve.
Maybe it’s in calling our local representatives, maybe it’s in the current initiatives facilitated by VFAF such as the Grassroots Activists Training Seminars, Tuesday night calls, or other initiatives we are spearheading all over the commonwealth.
In Luke 11:24-26 we see Christ speaking with his disciples and others (see verse 27 to note that there were many others there besides His disciples) and telling them that any house that is clean and swept and in order is subject to invasion unless it is filled by something good. In this case, since Christ is talking about the removal of evil spirits, the antidote sets the stage for the anointing of the Holy Spirit foretold by Christ in John 14 and established in Pentecost, after the Resurrection of Christ, as recorded in Acts 2.
We MUST inject the presence of the Holy Spirit in our governance as those who are arrested for a variety of illegal activities and removed from their positions.
We must occupy the space made available as we saw happening in Vail at the end of April.
We must be ready to be the “WE” that President Trump mentioned on January 20, 2017.
We are the “we” that the founding fathers envisioned. This governance that is Christian in nature was discussed in detail by our founders, in the Federalist Papers (best to grab a copy of this edited before 1987), and in a book by David Barton called America’s Godly Heritage. I’ll be discussing all these documents in the weeks and months to come.
Why? If we are going to run the government, we have to understand how and why it was created to be as it is supposed to be. And we are to hold that space for the Holy Spirit to operate. (David Barton also introduces background on the very infamous rulings about church and state.)
In closing, if “we the people” are to lead, then we the people must explore how we are going to be involved in the process.
Much like we see in the church, the governance of communities, a commonwealth, and a nation are made up of many people fulfilling their roles in our society.
What is yours?
This is a worthy thing to prayerfully explore. Don’t let someone else do it.
I grew up hearing that I should not engage in talking about politics, religion, or money. And we wonder why we have issues in each of those areas if we were all taught these pillars of our world were taboo to discuss! Funny thing about me, too, is that I was like white on rice – these are EXACTLY the issues I find myself discussing most these days!
What are your needs in your community? Who are your school board members? How many people in your community do you know and partner with? When can you attend a meeting to learn how to be more active in your local community? How can you partner with VFAF?
Many hands make light work (Tanzanian proverb), and we do need all hands on deck to accomplish what President Trump set out to at the beginning of his presidency!
To quote Uncle Sam, “we need YOU!”
With love and faith, for God and country,
